Welcome to Vickery Animal Hospital, Your Hometown Veterinarian in Cumming

Since opening in 2011, our Alpharetta vet has helped countless pets and their families navigate everything from puppy vaccinations to managing complex medical conditions. Dr. Josh Woods at Vickery Animal Hospital established this practice with a clear vision: veterinary medicine should heal the whole patient, not just treat symptoms.

Located in Cumming’s Midway Family Festival shopping center, our animal hospital in Alpharetta serves the broader community with services ranging from preventative care and dental disease treatment to advanced surgical procedures. Every member of our staff has completed Fear Free training because we know that reducing anxiety during visits leads to more accurate diagnoses, better cooperation during examinations, and stronger relationships between pets and their healthcare providers.

Our Mission

Dr. Josh Woods and the entire Vickery Animal Hospital team work from a foundational belief that quality medicine must go hand-in-hand with emotional support for both pets and their people. Too many animals develop fear responses to veterinary settings that complicate future care and prevent early detection of health problems. Our approach flips this script entirely. We’ve built our facility, trained our staff, and structured our protocols around one central question: how can we make this experience better for the animal?

When you partner with your Alpharetta vet at our practice, you’re choosing a team that measures success not just by clinical outcomes but by whether your pet walks through our door with confidence instead of fear. That’s how we strengthen the human-animal bond while delivering the medical excellence your furry family member deserves.

Wellness and Vaccinations

Preventive care is the cornerstone of keeping your pet healthy throughout their life. We recommend bi-annual wellness exams for all cats and dogs, which include comprehensive physical examinations and annual laboratory testing tailored to your pet’s age, breed, and lifestyle. Our Fear Free Certified Professionals create a stress-free environment where your companion receives the individualized attention they deserve.

We follow American Animal Hospital Association guidelines to develop customized vaccination protocols that protect without over-vaccinating. Core vaccines like Rabies and Distemper are essential for all pets, while additional lifestyle-based vaccines are recommended based on your pet’s specific exposure risks and medical history. At Vickery Animal Hospital, our Alpharetta vet team prioritizes quality preventive care that keeps your furry family member safe, healthy, and comfortable for years to come.

Pet Dental Care

Your pet’s oral health directly impacts their overall well-being, which is why we prioritize comprehensive dental services at Vickery Animal Hospital. Our certified technicians use high-speed, human-grade equipment to perform thorough cleanings that remove plaque and tartar buildup before it leads to periodontal disease. We also conduct full-mouth X-rays to detect hidden problems beneath the gum line that aren’t visible during standard examinations.

From routine cleanings to advanced procedures like extractions and dental surgery, we treat every case with compassionate, Fear Free certified techniques. Our team educates pet owners on effective at-home care, including proper brushing with pet-specific toothpaste and dental chews that promote healthy teeth between visits. Whether you need preventive pet dental care or treatment for existing conditions, our experienced Alpharetta vet staff is here to protect your companion’s smile and long-term health.

Meet the Team

Our 16-person Alpharetta vet staff represents a blend of veterinary expertise, technical skill, and genuine care for animal wellbeing that creates the foundation of everything we do. Dr. Josh Woods founded the practice after more than 15 years in emergency and general veterinary medicine, bringing particular strength in dental health and internal medicine. Dr. Sierra Morelli joined in 2020 with a focus on feline patients and nutritional guidance, while Dr. Jessica Dabbs adds certified acupuncture capabilities for pets needing pain management or integrative treatment options.

Behind these veterinarians work licensed technicians including Allison, RVT (our technical team manager with 14 years of experience), alongside assistants Bryenna, Hannah, Kyla, Bridget, Kim, and Katelyn who handle everything from surgical prep to patient comfort. Krista manages daily operations with two decades of veterinary field knowledge, while Heather oversees front office functions—a role she’s held since we opened in 2011. Professional groomers Andie and Alyssa, plus customer service representative Jenn, round out a team where every member understands that exceptional care requires attention to both medical needs and emotional responses throughout each visit.

FAQs

How do I schedule my pet's first appointment?

New clients can call (770) 220-7000 during business hours to book an appointment with our veterinary professionals. Our front office Alpharetta vet team will gather basic information about your pet’s needs and find a convenient time slot. We typically accommodate wellness visits within the same week, though urgent vet care cases may receive same-day scheduling depending on availability and severity of the concern.

What should I bring to my pet's first visit?

Bring vaccination records from your previous Alpharetta vet, a list of current pet medication with dosages, and notes about any flu-like symptoms or health concerns. Pack your pet’s favorite treats to create positive associations. For pre-surgical consultations about surgical services, mention any previous anesthesia experiences and known allergies to help us prepare appropriate care protocols.

Do you treat both dogs and cats at your practice?

Our Alpharetta veterinary clinic provides comprehensive care for both canine and feline patients from puppyhood through senior years. We maintain separate exam spaces including a cat-only room for a stress-free environment. Dr. Morelli specializes in feline medicine, making us particularly well-suited for cat owners. Our veterinary professionals understand the unique medical needs and treatment approaches for each species.

What happens if my pet has an emergency after hours?

We operate Monday-Friday 8 AM-6 PM plus alternating Saturdays 8 AM-noon. For pet emergency situations outside these hours, contact Blue Pearl Emergency Hospital at (404) 459-0903 located at 455 Abernathy Rd. NE, Sandy Springs. They provide 24/7 urgent Alpharetta vet care. During regular hours, call immediately for sick pets. We accommodate same-day appointments when possible.

Why does your practice emphasize Fear Free methods?

Fear Free Certification trains staff to identify and minimize anxiety triggers during veterinary visits. We’ve redesigned our facility with calming scents, quiet spaces, and soothing sounds. Our Alpharetta vet team uses gentle handling, positive reinforcement, and may suggest anti-anxiety pet medication for nervous patients. This approach improves cooperation during teeth cleanings and routine wellness exams while preventing lasting negative associations.

See Why Our Alpharetta Vet Has Families Coming Back!

Regular wellness visits form the backbone of disease prevention and early detection, giving your Alpharetta vet the baseline information needed to spot subtle changes before they become a pet emergency. New clients appreciate our extended weekday hours and alternating Saturday availability that make scheduling convenient around work and family commitments.
